About George
George was reared on a small family farm in eastern North Carolina – in the triangle of Beautancus, Harvey Myers Store and Rones Chapel. As a young lad he learned to milk cows, birth pigs, pluck chickens, drive tractors and trucks, and ‘crop’ tobacco. Though in his high school years he thought he wanted to be a farmer – just as his dad had been since returning from WWII – once he went to East Carolina University (ECU) he quickly learned there was a different … and less physically demanding … way to earn a living. As George entered ECU in the mid-1970s, the business department was undertaking the creation of a real estate program, the first ever in N.C., and from which George graduated in 1978.
Before graduation, George desired to enter the commercial real estate arena and, as such, his first job out of ECU was to be with a commercial real estate firm. However, the week prior to his graduation from ECU the the firm’s owner decided to “close the doors” and pursue a different real estate related venture. As the old adage goes, “all things happen for a reason.” To this end, with his freshly minted real estate license and college diploma (with a specialty in real estate), George was encouraged to teach the local community college’s real estate licensing course, as the school’s instructor of many years had relocated to another part of the state.
Ever since George taught his first real estate course – a 30-hour licensing course – a mere 3-months following his graduation from ECU and 4-months after receiving his real estate license … he has been hooked on real estate instruction. Serving the next several years in the training division of the newly formed Century 21 of the Carolinas regional office, George obtained more real estate experience from those that had gone before him than any single REALTOR possibly could obtain in a lifetime of personal practice.
Learning so very much from so many at the impressionable age of 21, George quickly put his new found “experience” to work and, among other early successes, had his first real estate book published by Prentice-Hall Publishing Company when he was just 31 years old.
Lastly, during his 35-year career as a real estate broker and instructor, George has been blessed to have made many friends across the country and to have received many honors, including:
Awarded the N.C. Real Estate Educator-of-the-Year Award in both 2012 and 1991 by the NC Real Estate Educator Association
Awarded the Billie J. Mercer Excellence in Education Award in 2012 by the N.C. Real Estate Commission
